Wrestlemania 32: The Fine Line Between Satisfaction And Failure

WrestleMania 32 The WWE's marquee event is live on April 3rd, 2016 and many WWE faithful are thus far reserving judgement as has been the case in recent years.

Once again we are faced with some questionable booking and yes... Another Main Event featuring Roman Reigns. Since the 2015 WrestleMania the WWE has been devastated by injuries and I think it's fair to say the WWE weather the storm as best as it could have.

In response to declining ratings we seen Vince return to TV. Kalisto win the US Title. Triple H return to the ring and become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Some wars between Brock and The Undertaker. Roman Reigns continues to headline in spite of the fans and the continued rise of Dean Ambrose. The Divas Revolution which is on it's last legs as groups have fractured. While Raw hasn't gotten much new blood outside of AJ Styles and the return of Sami Zayn we've also seen the cupboards continue to be loaded in NXT.

So reality is our options were always going to be limited with NXT graduations coming much slower than many have hoped in spite of the mass injuries to the main roster.

A quick look and break down of the main card with the list via Wikipedia

Andre "The Giant" Memorial Battle Royal is a throw in with little to no implications going forward but an over the top rope elimination is always worth a watch. While all the entrants are yet to be finalized I'm putting my money on Tyler Breeze to win it for the trophy selfie opportunities.

The Uso's vs The Dudley Boys - Flip a coin and the winner is... It doesn't matter! You can build it for two months but there are no implications here. A title shot? Even if The New Day loses to the League of Nations the tag titles will be tied up another month at least.

7- man Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship - This one has Zayn/Owens written all over it. The two could cancel out which opens the door for Ziggler but the rest are fillers to take some bumps.

Divas Championship
Charlotte vs Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks - You have to think Lynch or Banks walk out of AT&T Stadium. There are too many Divas struggling to stay relevant at the moment and Charlotte has been underwhelming as champion.

United States Championship
Kalisto vs Ryback - I'm happy to see Ryback trying to make changes but it's still not enough. Frankly he needs a win here. Losing to Kalisto pretty much cements him as a career jobber.

WWE Tag Team Championships
The New Day vs The League of Nations - The beating they put on the New Day was impressive and cringe-worthy. Now lets see if they can follow it up otherwise I don't see a team on the main roster who can unseat the New Day hype train.

Hell In A Cell
Shane McMahon Vs The Undertaker - This one is going to be crazy one way or another. Shane will fly. Taker will do tons of damage. This match guaranteed will be decided by outside interference and it could be a wild one regardless. Big implications either way. I'm going with the Undertaker on the basis that losing to Lesnar is one thing... dropping another Mania match only hurts the Deadman's legacy.

Street Fight
Dean Ambrose vs Brock Lesnar - This is my pick for match of the night. This will be must see WWE. It's going to be brutal to watch and I guarantee an instant classic. Winner - Brock Lesnar. We've seen Ambrose get destroyed by Lesnar a few times and I don't think weapons are going to be enough to even this one up. Expect Lesnar to set his sights on Reigns or Triple H next

WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H vs Roman Reigns - I'll pick this as the match that has the most potential to be a bust. Damned if you do damned if you don't in this case. Triple H walking out champ must line up a title match with Lesnar. Roman Reigns as Champ will lead to deafening boos and me personally turning off my tv in disgust. Frankly it's Triple H or bust here. A third title for Reigns does nothing to put him over and that's the entire reason Triple H is back to active duty.

In conclusion - This whole night could be hit and miss. Everyone brings their A game but they're really going to need a few A+ performances to live up to the WrestleMania name. The Hell In A Cell match must bring intrigue and blow away expectations in order for this event to considered a success rather than average at best.

He then powerbombed Triple H onto the Spanish announce table. Triple H didn't go through so Reigns delivered a huge elbow drop to finish the table. Then as Triple H was being helped to the back Reigns turned back on the ramp and ran down to hit another spear. Reigns finally left after all the carnage and fans were left in shock at what could finally be the turn and hype Roman Reigns has been lacking.

Pain is the theme this month. WWE Injured list

We'll start the review with one of the biggest injuries in recent WWE history. While on the WWE Live European Tour Rollins was injured on the first stop in Dublin, Ireland. Bad injury. Worse timing.
Breaking: Seth Rollins INJURED expected to miss 6 to 9 months

This led to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament which Roman Reigns would go on to win at Survivor Series. After a couple minutes to celebrate the PPV would end in a shocking turn as Sheamus would go on to cash in and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Survivor Series Results

That wasn't the end of the injury news though. After a match with Roman Reigns in the WHC tournament Cesaro would fall prey to the injury bug with a shoulder injury.
Superman Grounded: Another WWE Star to miss 4-6 months

Randy Orton suffered a shoulder injury which will sideline him for 4-6 months
The Viper to miss 4 to 6 months

This was offset by the early return of Rusev. Who missed time with a torn bicep muscle. He would make an immediate impact attacking Roman Reigns on the Raw following Survivor Series.
Rusev Returns

Dean Ambrose won a triple threat on the most recent Smackdown to become the number one contender for Kevin Owens Intercontinental Championship.
11/26 Smackdown

The Uso's and Lucha Dragons will face The New Day at the TLC ppv. No word yet but it may be a triple threat TLC match. The final WWE event of the month Raw saw a 7 on 4 handicap match that became a 7 on 3 after one of the Uso's left the match with an injured knee.
WWE Raw Results 11/30

To top off what's been a poor month on the injury front the WWE's ratings have continued to fall and it's only a matter of time before Vince McMahon pushed the panic button and big changes come.

The New Day open the show mocking the crowd and the Pittsburgh Steelers who are in attendance. They then introduce the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus who comes out and again mocks Roman Reigns title reign. The New Day leaves the ring while Sheamus has pyro and confetti for his championship celebration. He turns though and receives a Superman Punch from Roman Reigns who takes the title with him when he exits.

In the back we see the Authority stop Reigns and take the title from him. They tell him he can have a title shot tonight but he must defeat Sheamus in 5:15. Later on they would stipulate that Reigns must win in order for the Uso's to have a title shot and for Dean Ambrose to keep his shot at Kevin Owens.

The Main event is up next. Just as the match was about to start The New Day come out and say they've convinced the Authority to allow them to join the League of Nations tonigt.

The League of Nations(Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Rusev, King Barrett) and The New Day defeat Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and The Uso's - One of the Uso's is injured mid match making it a 7 vs 3. As you would expect the numbers game was too much and most of the match was isolation of the Uso's.

WWE Singles Rankings Updated 10/26 Post Raw/HIAC update

Please follow on social media! We're a new site and your support keeps us motivated!
+1
1. Brock Lesnar - The Beast rises one to the top spot after an instant classic at Hell In A Cell. The best match of the rivalry with the Undertaker by far. Brock using the low blow proves The Beast Incarnate wants to win as much as he wants to bring the pain and that's bad news for anyone in his path.
+1
2. Seth Rollins - The architect stops Demon Kane at HIAC in convincing fashion and will face the newly crowned #1 contender
+1
3. Kevin Owens - KO with a big win at HIAC to move beyond Ryback and another win on Raw over an impressive but struggling Cesaro moves KO into the three spot.
-3
4. John Cena - The "champ" no more. Cena drops the United States Championship to a returning Alberto Del Rio and it wasn't even a contest.  Word is Cena is set to fall further in the rankings as he takes time off.
+5
5.  Roman Reigns - After an instant classic against Bray Wyatt in HIAC Reigns followed it up with a Raw win over Kofi Kingston and then wins the Fatal 4-way to become the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and a shot at former Shield brother Seth Rollins. A stunning 24-hours for Reigns.
- Previously unranked
6. Alberto Del Rio - The Mexican superstar made a shocking return and did enough to take the United States Championship off John Cena at Hell In A Cell. The following night he secured a win over Neville but fell short in the #1 Contender Fatal 4-way despite looking impressive.
-1
7. Sheamus - The new trio of Sheamus, Rusev and King Barrett may have lost at HIAC but they redeemed themselves with a win on Raw over Ryback and The Dudley Boyz.
-2 8. Cesaro - The Swiss Superman may have picked up a win on the HIAC pre show but he failed to gain a spot in the #1 contender Fatal 4-way on Raw. While he controlled most of the Match he ultimately fell to Kevin Owens to continue a rough run of results despite strong showings. It may only be a matter of time until Cesaro breaks out.

-2 9. Rusev - The new trio of Sheamus, Rusev and King Barrett may have lost at HIAC but they redeemed themselves with a win on Raw over Ryback and The Dudley Boyz.

-mistakenly unranked previously
10. Bray Wyatt - While he lost at HIAC he put on a hell of a match with Reigns and he wasted little time moving on when the Wyatt Family attacked and abducted The Undertake rand the next night Kane.

-3
11. Dean Ambrose - Ambrose may be hurt as he didn't have a match at HIAC and again on Raw. He's going to continue to drop in the ranking as long as he's Roman Reigns personal cheerleader.

-1
12. Dolph Ziggler - A win in the HIAC pre-show and a ticket to the #1 contender Fatal 4-way still isn't enough to keep Ziggler from falling as Ziggler would lose to Roman Reigns.
- previously unranked
13. Wade Barrett - The new trio of Sheamus, Rusev and King Barrett may have lost at HIAC but they redeemed themselves with a win on Raw over Ryback and The Dudley Boyz.

-2
14. Kane - He lost and looked unremarkable at WWE HIAC. I really thought we would see more of a fight from The Demon Kane but it appears father time has caught up to even the Devils favorite Demon.

 -2
15. Ryback - Another loss to Owens at HIAC and he followed that up with a loss with the Dudley Boyz vs Wade Barrett, Rusev and Sheamus. Perhaps he should join the Dudley Boyz as tonight was one of the few enjoyable matches he's had.

Falling out of the top-15 mainly due to inactivity are The Big Show, Randy Orton, The Undertaker

Seth Rollins defeats Cesaro 3/5

Solid match that saw WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rollins take some good damage early. At one point he tries to leave and Cesaro gives chase. Heading back into the ring Seth Rollins took over from that point on and closed the match with The Pedigree. The Cosmic Wasteland(Stardust, The Ascension) sat at ringside with a Stardust Section sign and Stardust referring to Cesaro as Superman which clearly is a build up to a future feud for both.

Nikki Bella defeats Paige 3/5

A pretty good divas match that saw the two divas trade power moves and near falls. Despite Team Bella and PCB at ringside there was no outside interference and Nikki picks up a clean win via The Rack Attack

Miz TV  featuring Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae

The segment lead out with some verbal barbs between Miz and Ziggler. Then Summer Rae and Ziggler which all leads to Summer Rae introducing her "new man" Tyler Breeze who comes out to NXT chants. He quickly goes from insulting Ziggler to full assault and drops Dolph before taking a couple selfies with Summer and heading to the back.

Sheamus and Barrett with Rusev defeat The Lucha Dragons 2/5
A clear mismatch from the start is salvaged by the high flying Lucha Dragon offense. Kalisto stood out and put on a show reminiscent of a young WCW Rey Mysterio. His pace and creativity may soon lead to a successful singles career however it was an impressive Brogue Kick from the outside as Sheamus that sealed the deal and King Barrett got the cover.

Bo Dallas vs Ryback 0/5
A typical quick squash match. Building Ryback up this way serves little purpose heading into Hell In A Cell. The match was followed by Renee Young interviewing a very confident Kevin Owens.

Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose defeat The New Day without Xavier Woods 2/5
A fairly one-sided affair. Reigns and Ambrose were in control from start to finish. New day tried to exit early but were forced back to ringside by The Dudley Boyz

Overall 2/5

A very average Smackdown heading into a PPV. The build up for Hell In A Cell has been lackluster and outside of Lesnar vs Undertaker you may have trouble remembering what matches are even on the Hell In A Cell card so we can help!

Hell In A Cell Card Sunday 10/25

Fortnight Character Rewrite #1: Roman Reigns

Share the link and Follow on Twitter and Facebook over there -->
please note not everything works on the site yet but please show support anyway it's in the works! Thank you!

This is the first edition of Fortnight Character Re-write. Every two weeks an in depth profile will be posted here on YouCallThatWrestling. Share. Follow. Favourite for WWE reviews and rankings!

This week we discuss the controversial Roman Reigns. Reigns is the typical buff WWE powerhouse and fans know this not because he's a show stopper must-see Monday night delight Nope... it's because WWE has force fed him to the masses and he's being rejected harder than the nerd who approached the cheerleader. That being said I like Roman and I see the potential in spite of the boos.

The problem is... Reigns is not what the fans want him to be. Not yet at least. Welcome to the first ever Fortnight Character Re-write. A bi-weekly look at superstars who desperately needs a change and some ideas on how that can be achieved.

Off the top lets do a quick break down of Roman Reigns.
Pros

The look - Roman's a big tough Samoan much like the rest of his family who have made a big impact on the wrestling business. From his long hair to the eye catching sleeve he's definitely got the "it" factor.

Size and strength - At 6'3 265 Reigns is built for war and he's shown he can do some serious damage but it was his ability to weather the storm at WrestleMania 31 against Lesnar that really stood out. Not only did he visit Suplex City but he survived it and was able to push Lesnar around for a while as well.

Cons
Personality/Mic skill - Roman has a great story and outside the ring he's seems like a very likeable guy. The fans don't get to see the real Roman Reigns though. On nights when Reigns teams up with Dean Ambrose he's far looser and has fun and it shows. By himself though he struggles to come through as anything more than a brawler while seeming nervous and also lacking confidence on the microphone.

Gimmick - You have Seth Rollins, The WWE World Heavyweight Champion, The Man, The Architect the man on top of the mountain despite a struggling in-ring record. Dean Ambrose, Unstable, Lunatic Fringe . The loose cannon coming out of The Shield he's unpredictable and love a brawl. Then you have Roman Reigns who has failed entirely to evolve. The same entrance, the same music, the same move-set and the same nice guy attitude.

Move-set - Superman Punch, Spear, Apron dropkick, Samoan drop. Reigns has been falling more and more into the 4 moves of death comfort zone. Much like John Cena you can recognize the pattern almost immediately.

"Enough is a enough and it's time for a change" - Owen Hart

Roman Reigns has superstar potential but I haven't seen a guy with all the goods stall out so fast and at such an early stage like this. It's unprecedented. Chalk it up to a combination of Reigns being unwilling to change and creative dropping the ball.

Lets look at a couple scenarios starting with a classic
The Bodyguard
Roman was the beast of The Shield. He played the supporting role incredibly well. His mic time was limited and he let his power do the talking.

A perfect scenario is to first drop the Shield look. Lose the vest. I don't have an opinion about guys going shirt or no shirt so I don't care but the bullet proof vest look is weak. Nobody is going to shoot you and you're not D'Lo Brown doing loaded frog splashes.

Now Roman has that big tough look that every WWE bodyguard usually has(Diesel, Batista etc.) so it's a natural fit he already looks mean and you know he can brawl.

That being The Authority clearly isn't going away so it's best to build it. Start by having Reigns turn on Ambrose and follow in the foot steps of Seth Rollins. A heel turn that sees Roman spend some time backstage with the Authority and Triple H which in turn will help him with his mic skills and give him and the fans a break from the deafening boos.

As with all bodyguard gimmicks you have a few options but all of them involve a year or so of Reigns doing dirty work and building him to look very strong without teasing a turn. He's got to become a convincingly good pal of the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and if Seth continues as champion the betrayal needs to be a complete blindside without warning or hints. None of this tormented guy finally loses it... none of the open title aspirations causes a rift... Let it happen when it's least expected... Think Evolution the night after Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Title.

1. A simple betrayal during a Rollins open challenge for the WWE WHC. Maybe have Rollins start holding open challenges for a month or so and when he's grown tired have Reigns squash Rollins in a one sided match.

2. The Authority is challenged by a group and must disband if they lose which would see Reigns turn baby face destroying the Authority from within

3. Reigns eventually gets the nod from the Authority and takes down Rollins to become "The Man" He's already got heat so if he can become nasty and actually earns it by destroying some well liked stars it's a great way to end the bodyguard gimmick and move Reigns back into the title picture.

Resistance
At one point there was The Ministry of Darkness vs The Corporation. WWE vs the WCW/ECW Invaders. NWO Black and White vs NWO Red/Wolfpac.

It's been quite a while since the last invasion. Nexus had a small scale and short lived invasion which was fun at first but WWE hasn't had a big one lately. If they did. Roman Reigns once he's dropped the Shield gimmick would be a great powerhouse in that stable for either side who can come out very strong in the end.

The Authority has been getting weaker and you know when things get weak it either ends or rebound. It may be time to start building that stable and with every stable you need La resistance and I'm not talking about Renee Dupree and Sylvain Grenier. WWE has a glut of talent some of which have no direction whatsoever so unifying some of them for a more hostile stable war would help a few guys claw back from obscurity while hopefully intriguing some fans into tuning back in.

Throwback... APA 2.0
This one is a little different. We all enjoyed the Acolytes Protection Agency. John Bradshaw Layfield (Formerly known simply as "Bradshaw") and Ron Simmons(Farooq) were a brawling mercenary tag team that worked for whoever paid the most that night and they were extremely effective and very well liked. Most times they sat in the back smoking cigars, drinking beer and playing poker but when it was time for a match or time to take care of someone else' business they got the job done sometimes in devastating fashion.

This role is perfect for Roman Reigns. The fans need to either see a strong heel or see a less serious side of Roman and Roman needs to start having fun on camera and enjoy being out there. Getting booed is wearing on him and the fans right now obviously don't care much for him.

You're naturally thinking Ambrose would be perfect for this role but I disagree. Ambrose has done well to carve our his own niche and he's got the fan support he needs so saddling him down with a struggling Reigns will only hurt him.

I see Baron Corbin in this role or even think former TNA stars and NXT newcomers Samoa Joe or even James Storm would be a great companion to Reigns. You need a couple big nasty fighters for this role. Guys you know can hurt someone when they're on their way to the ring. With Joe you have a Samoan connection which could be fun as long as it's not turned into a racial gimmick as we've seen in the past.

Review
It's clear Reigns needs to be reworked and taking him off TV may be the best course of action at least for a couple months. New look. New attitude. New moves. All can be achieved but the onus is on WWE Creative to build Reigns as he clearly hasn't made enough changes to be relevant on his own.

Some guys need a creative push instead of a title push and left unchanged for four years Reigns is the poster boy for an epic blunder by WWE Creative. WWE brass must realize that Roman Reigns isn't the only one suffering through this trend before it consumes others. The fans want change because it's a new day! yes it is!
